• I am doing translation work for a family website. Although I am a native German, I bought this book in the hope that it would provide oldfashioned, genealogical and historical terms and titles with which I am not familiar and which are not contained in modern dictionaries. From the description on your website I even mentioned it to some of my fellow translators, offering to test it before recommending it.
  
  However, I cannot recommend it. I found very few of the terms I was looking for, and I discovered some blatant mistakes. Mr. Thode should have had a German person proofread his work in order to avoid things like confusing diarrhea with compulsion (sic!), dishonest with illegitimate, cupboard with liquor service. These are only three of the mistakes which I found in one hour, and there are probably dozens more. Instead of giving us more legitimate terms, Mr. Thode wastes valuable space on common Christian names which everybody knows.

• Works better than Google Translate. Not as fast, but better translations. And you can usually figure out the word with the first few letters. Google Translate won't help you if you misspelled it. This book will.

• It has been a great help with German words that I have found in my genealogical researching of my family.
• I do Genealogy and have trouble deciphering German documents. This book even shows how the letters of the alphabet look when written (script) and printed in documents or books.
• This dictionary is an absolute necessity for any family history researcher who has ancestors in Germany and doesn't read german. It has the necessary words, numbers, dates, and handwriting examples to make translating German documents not only possible but manageable. I highly recommend it.
• A very useful source for the genealogist. In addition to many obsolete German legal terms it includes translations of many Latin phrases which appear in old German documents. I've been translating many German mortgage papers from the 1840's to 60's and I've been using it a great deal. Highly recommended.
